In addition to temporary shows, the Museum is divided into four exhibit areas.

Passamaquoddy dwellingThe People of the Dawn: Created to help preserve a culture nearly lost to antiquity, this exhibit is a tribute to those who first understood the quiet majesty and power of the land now referred to as Downeast Maine.  Hear a language spoken for thousands of years.

Explorer and mapL'Ile Sainte Croix - St. Croix Island: The exhibit tells the story of a European settlement older than Plymouth Rock or Jamestown. The nearby island settlement is the genesis of Acadians, people who have a fascinating and colorful influence on North American history and culture.  Visit the ghost of a 17th Century explorer.

 

Starfish in touchpoolLiving with the Sea: Learn about the rich Downeast seagoing heritage, as well as the dramatic tides and diverse marine life here. Touch live sea creatures in our indoors tide pool.  Watch dramatic tidal changes from the Museum's panoramic windows.

 

 

Cabin cutawayLiving with the Land: This exhibit preserves the rigorous history of the people who earned their living from the land, highlights the natural heritage that makes this region unique and irreplaceable, and provides a peek at ways people make their fun in the forest.
